We are delighted to invite you to the Finnish Evening - full of excellent food, good music, stylish ambience and cultural insights. This night will be the perfect occasion to share knowledge with colleagues, to be entertained and to celebrate your latest scientific achievements in the exclusive atmosphere of Hotel Crowne Plaza.
The Finnish Evening Dinner will be held on the second floor of the hotel with nice view to the surrounding park in the gentle end-of-May-evening light.
The evening will start with a cocktail while the famous brass band, RWBK, from the Aalto university is playing. RWBK is without a doubt the world's best technology student orchestra that plays newer French horn music - "l'art nouveau francais". RWBK was founded in 1933. For close to 80 years, RWBK has made its mission to cause disapproval amongst humorless people.
A buffet dinner is served with some modern Finnish entertainment.
The evening will end with Rock'n'roll dancing to the Mato Valtonen and Jore Marjaranta & Band. Mato Valtonen and Jore Marjaranta are Finnish pop and rock legends! They are rocking together again and this is the first time since they stirred up the music scene in the famous Leningrad Cowboys band as lead singers in the 1990’s. The reunion is just for a few shows and in addition to their own hits they are performing the best of good old rock’n’roll!
We hope you will join us for this special night of networking, good cheer and food delights in the heart of Helsinki.
Feel free to register and invite your colleagues and friends.

Gala Dinner / Conference DinnerDate: Thursday, 1 June 2017 The Gala Dinner will be held in one of the most famous buildings in Finland and the venue of the 1990 FIG Congress, the Finlandia Hall. It is a masterpiece created by the world-renowned Finnish architect, Alvar Aalto. Its combination of an all-embracing aesthetic vision, distinctive atmosphere and functionality is unique. The location in a park by the sea in the centre of Helsinki adds the final touch to a building which has no equivalent, neither in Finland nor anywhere else. A splendid three-course meal will be followed by speeches and music of the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius among others and performed by the Total Cello Ensemble. Total Cello Ensemble is a group of six high-quality cellists that combine their professionalism in classical music with a new way of thinking. That often means breaking down musical barriers. During the Total Cello Show you can hear the band's ideas about how far their instruments can reach. Their wide repertoire reaches from Sibelius to Formula Uno Race or sounds in the wilderness of Finnish Lapland. The ensemble plays also both Argentinian and Finnish tango in a very touching way, but the basis of the repertoire is on classical music. Read more about Finlandia Hall here.
